____
Don Filomeno Gana’s house is most likely the biggest bahay-na-bato in Biñan today. The original façade windows were of capiz with diamond patterned transoms, while the barandilla was made of wooden balusters. The house remodeled in 1930 by a Japanese architect and new elements were introduced to the façade and interiors. Its windows adopted the trendier glass panes and rich grillwork replaces the wooden barandillas underneath the window sills in front.
The grand staircase echoes the same intricate grillwork for its railings. Both sides of the house, however, retained the old capiz and wooden balusters which are part of the original architecture. The house is also one that boasts of a watch tower adorned with sliding colored glass panes and provided an excellent 360-degree view of Manila, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal provinces. Don Filomeno Gana graduated law from Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Though, born of wealthy parents, he has the drive and determination plus business acumen, which made it possible for him to acquire vast landholdings. He co-founded the Banko Rural de Cabalog during the 1940’s and later on establish the Rural Bank of Biñan in 1955 after the Japanese occupation.
