Before the acquisition of Don Jacobo Gonzales, this house belonged to Don Eulalio Gana, who was Kapitan of Biñan in 1850 and again in 1867-1868 and married to Florentina Potenciano. From among their five children, Eduardo, Jesualdo, Flaviana, Ciriaco and Teodoro, it was Ciriaco the youngest son who inherited the house. Unfortunate circumstances force him to sell the house to his niece Maria. A spinster, she bequeathed the house to her nephew Filomeno Gana. With the burden of maintaining two huge household, this house was eventually sold for P50,000 to Don Jacobo Gonzales who was then in search for a property in Biñan that he can call his own. One of the most distinguished in town Don Jacobo was a congressman of the first district of Laguna during the 1950s. he was also a descendant of Maestro Justiniano Aquino Cruz whose former house stood immediately behind this property he had bought, adding a more personal significance to his purchase. Maestro Cruz’s house served as the town’s school house and as our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s first formal school. The site bears the marker of the National Historical Institute. The Gonzales House served as the municipal building during Agustin Gana’s term in 1916-1922 and stood as witness to the murder of Julio Anti porda in 1938 who was town mayor during that time.
