Burayok Falls

Burayok Falls is a Registered Property, Province of Cagayan located at Gattaran, Cagayan, Region II.

Barangay Basao is one of the Fifty (50) Barangays in Gattaran which is more or less Nine (9) kilometres away from Centro/Poblacion. It is bounded in the north by barangay Magapit, Lal-lo, in the south by Barangay Nagatutuan, Gattaran, in the east by barangay Sidem, Gattaran, and in the west by barangay Aguiguican, Gattaran, Cagayan. It has an estimated land area of 8844.283 hectares with a total population of 1,515 comprised of 321 households. Farming is the main source of living of its constituents.
Travel time in going to Basao where the famous “Burayok Falls” is found is more or less Twenty Minutes (20) from the Poblacion depending on the type of vehicle. It is the most accessible tourist spot of the municipality. Clear, cool natural water flowing from the mountains dripping slowly down a layered basin truly washes away your stresses. Splash into a knee and breast high water that runs through the irrigation canal is indeed a splendid experience. The falls is surrounded by verdant forest with ample space for picnics, retreat and other extraordinary events. The cold wind, melodious sound of chirping birds, cicadas, dragonflies and butterflies are extremely beautiful to behold.
Long time ago a certain landowner never noticed that there is a small falls in the middle of the forest. His land was surrounded by big variety of trees. He only discovered it when some men started mining his land and he wasn’t able to stop them. He also observed that water continuously flow from the roots of trees in the mountains. This is where “Burayok” is derived from which means “Ubbog”, a small stream of water flowing naturally.
