Egret Sanctuary

Egret Sanctuary is a Registered Property, Province of Cagayan located at Claveria, Cagayan, Region II.

The place where in we saw the Egrets is called “Delta” in Iloco “Tagipuro” because it slightly looked like a small island at Dibalio, Claveria, Cagayan, east of Cabicungan River. Egrets in Iloco is called “kanaway”. They seek refuge in a swamp area and surrounded by body of water because according to elders, they feel safe there. This is surrounded by river and trees are plenty. You can see the beautiful view of Egret Sanctuary when you go to the fish port at Centro 4, Claveria, Cagayan between 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. According to MENRO, the lot is owned by Guillermo Magno. Migratory season in the Philippines starts in September and ends in March. And that’s when white and brown birds are seen along the rice fields, beaches, swamps and other wetlands. Sadly, many of these migratory bird species are also threatened, and this is mostly caused by human activities such as over exploitation, conversion of ecosystems for development purposes, habitat loss, hunting, among others.
