Iglesia Filipina Independiente (Claveria)

Iglesia Filipina Independiente (Claveria) is a Registered Property, Province of Cagayan located at Claveria, Cagayan, Region II.

According to Mrs. Filipina Terada, 77 years old the servant of the church, the founder of the church is Obispo Maximo Gregorio Aglipay. The first priests elected were Delos Reyes and Fonacier. The lot was donated by Lagadon Family in 1960’s and in that year the church was constructed. In front of the church are the bust of 6 national heroes (Dr. Jose Rizal, Antonio Luna, Apolinario Mabini, Andres Bonifacio, Graciano Jaena Lopez and Marcelo del Pilar), 3 sculptures are priests named Jacinto [Zamora], Jose Burgos and [Mariano] Gomez; and the 3 sculptures are the saints and their Bishops. The building was restored by Fortunato Pajel (priest) and Prudencio Agarpao (engineer) in the 1970’s because it was ruined by a typhoon. The Church is designed like a ship and made up of wood and concrete. It has 12 Stations of the Cross located on both sides of the church. The sculpture on the left side of the altar called “Apo Baket” also known as Sintang Quidilla which is the first servant and devotee in that church. She influenced the natives and taught them to praise and worship God. Her son and son-in-law, Marcelo Quidilla and Fortunato Pajel were also priests of their church. Her way to celebrate Holy Week is to wash the different size of stones to ask forgiveness of their sins. Their foundation anniversary is conducted yearly every March 11. They celebrate it by praying (novena) and after that they start a program and followed by a mass.
