An Augustinian friar named Fr. Juan Sorolla had it built in 1845. It was located in front of the old Tagudin Town Hall.
The sundial is considered to be one of the earliest forms of scientific instruments. It is used to measure time by casting the shadow of a gnomon (pointer/ rod/ bar) in a surface marked with time intervals.
There are only a few sundials built in the Philippines. Two of them can be found in Tagudin.
The sundial is still well-functioning even if it is already around 200 years old.
