Uta Cave

Uta Cave is a Registered Property, Municipality of Balbalan, Kalinga located at Balbalan, Kalinga, CAR.

This is a legendary cave which was named after “Kabunyan”, the legendary Kalinga superbeing, vomited on top of Mt. Makilkilang due to the false wine which people served to him when he attended a wake of a dead person. The vomit was engraved into the big stone where the cave is located and is now called “Uta”. The big stone eventually turned white because of the vomit.

Vomit in vernacular means “Uta”. This story was passed on to generations and generations and now part of the oral traditions of Balbalan, Kalinga. This story is told to every visitor who gets curious about the white rock in the middle of the mountain.

This site is believed to be created by “Kabunyan” (God) hence it is considered a sacred ground for the people living nearby. It is a belief that whenever people who enter the cave come out and it is raining, “Kabunyan” is crying because someone may done something wrong inside like vandalism or stones are taken outside.
