Saint Dominic de Guzman ChurchSaint Dominic de Guzman Church is a Registered Property, Province of Bataan located at Abucay, Bataan, Region III.
The Dominicans were put in charge of Abucay's spiritual ministry in 1588 and the church was built in the early 1600s. Tomas Pinpin, together with his co-author and teacher, Father Jose Blancas de San Jose printed some of the earliest Filipiniana books in the Saiint Dominic de Guzman Church.
The church witnessed the battle between the Pampango defenders and the Dutch on June 23, 1647. About two hundred Pampangos died. Forty people together with Pampanga's Spanish alcalder mayor Don Antonio de Cabrera, Father Geronimo Sotomayor and Father Tomas Ramos were taken to Batavia.
On September 16, 1852, the church suffered damages by an earthquake and then a fire in 1870. It was rebuilt by Father Jose Diego Pelaez. Before Balanga, Abucay was the seat of the Partido de Bataan.
