Established in 1608 when Christianity was spreading in Region V. The landmark, displaying the rich and great culture of the city, is one of the town's glorious attractions bringing the past to the present.
The first church made of light materials were razed to the ground and replaced with structure made of volcanic rocks and bricks but before the structure was completed it was burned to the ground in 1676. In 1709 a new church was constructed and was finally completed with a bell tower, tiled floors and arched passageways in 1882. Since then it has undergone several renovations.
