The parish of Jovellar was founded in 1876 commemorating the beheading of St. John the Baptist. The construction of the present church started in 1952 out of the salvaged materials old wooden church. The place was used for worship. The structure was built on top of a hill overlooking the Ortega’s Hall and the plaza.
