Importance: The church is a symbol of Catholism of the Pakileños and it serves as town landmark The original frame of Our Lady of Sorrows of Turumba is enshrined in the church. The church is also the most visited tourist attraction of the town.
The more than two century-old stone church whose façade presents a highly artistic architectural design, with the belfry at its right and the convent on the left, a typical portrayal of the Spanish Colonial Architecture in the Philippines. Inside are the altars with exquisite woodcarvings or retablos with image of saints representing the native skill and artistry.
The whole structure of the church reflects the diligence of the ancestors that constructed in for 35 years. The church tower, the roofing and the ceiling have been repaired but other innovation works try to preserve the antiquity of its structure by making prominent the adobe stones and the tiles in their natural color. The artwork of columns, windows, arches are of Doric and Corinthian design.
It is now elevated as the “Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows of Turumba.”

Ang Simbahan ng Pakil
Ipinatayong yari sa kawayan at nipa ni Padre Francisco Barajas sa patronato ni San Pedro de Alcantara nang ang Pakil ay mahiwalay sa Paete, 1676. Ipinagawa ang kumbento at simbahang bato ni Padre Fernando Haro, 1732. Dinugtungan ang tore, 1777; Idinambana ang Birhen ng Turumba, 1788; Nasunog na muli, 1851 at ipinaayos ni Padre Juan de Llarena. Nasira ng lindol ang tore at bubong ng simbahan, 1881 at pinaayos ni Padre Juan de Dios de Villayos. Inilagay ang kisame at pinadorado ang altar ni Padre Paulino Camba, 1883. Sinirang muli ng lindol, 1937 at pinaayos ni Padre Federico Diaz Pines sa tulong ng Kapisanang Unidad Catolica. Ginawang marmol ang altar ni Padre Joseph Reagan at kinonsagrahan ang altar ni Obispo Alejandro Olaila, 1959. Pinaayos ang tore at kisame sa pamamahala ng Parish Council of the Laity, 1980-84.
