Luz-Katigbak Heritage House

Luz-Katigbak Heritage House is a Heritage House, NHCP; Registered Property, Province of Batangas located at Lipa City, Batangas, Region IV-A.

RESOLUTION NO. 4, s. 1996

DECLARING THE LUZ-KATIGBAK ANCESTRAL HOUSE IN LIPA CITY, BATANGAS, AS A HERITAGE HOUSE.

WHEREAS, the Constitution of the Philippines provides that "The State shall promote and popularize the nation's historical and cultural heritage and resources";
WHEREAS, Presidential Decree No. 260, dated August 1, 1973, specifically vested the National Historical Institute, a cultural agency attached to the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, and an institution affiliated- to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, with the power"and duty to conserve and protect the historical and cultural heritage of the country;
WHEREAS, the Luz-Katigbak Ancestral House located at 198 Rizal Street, Lipa City, Batangas, was built in 1880;
WHEREAS, this is the conjugal home of Manuel Luz, Sr. and Segunda Katigbak, who in her younger years was the inspiration of some of Rizal's early poetry;
WHEREAS, the union of this two prominent Lipa families produced five sons and four daughters, all gifted in business, the visual and performing arts;
WHEREAS, the Luz-Katigbak bahay na bato is an excellent example of a well-preserved ancestral house, reflecting a significant historico-cultural period in our architectural history.
NOW, THEREFORE the National Historical Institute, by virtue of the powers vested in it by Presidential Decree No. 260, dated August 1, 1973, as amended by Presidential Decree No. 1505, dated June 11, 1978, hereby declares the LUZ-KATIGBAK ANCESTRAL HOUSE in Lipa City, Batangas, a Heritage House.
