Nestled on the hills of Binangonan, Rizal in San Carlos Heights is the house of the late National Artist Vicente S. Manansala. The bungalow is sprawled on 913 square meters of well-tended and landscaped land. Manansala fell in love with the site during one of his trips to the countryside while looking for landscape to paint. Indeed, the site is a respite from the urban jungle – the view overlooks the waters from Laguna de Bay and the roofs of the houses dotting the the slopes of the hills. From his front door, Manansala exhilarated in the subject before him, making watercolor studies of pink pastels of dawn, the blazing white of noon and the threads of oranges and blues of sunset at dusk.
The bungalow is a sturdy modern structure with its balcony where the artist conferred with friends and students who would pay him homage. The flower gardens make a pleasant rustic backdrop to the artist's home and studio, the place where he conceived some of his best works.
The house was declared a National Landmark on January 23, 1984. The landmark houses relics and memorabilia of his paintings and his artist's paraphernalia.
